Once upon a time, Spaniards colonized my country for more than three centuries.
Being a student interested in history, I always dreamed of what was it like during the Spanish colonial era of our country. Thankfully, there is this place where they preserved the structures and street built during the said era. Vigan, located in Ilocos Sur, is the place to be for those history inclined people. The place literally takes you back in time! The area where they preserved the structures is the Heritage Village.
*note: Wear light clothes and shorts. The temperature is raging. I also advice you to just wear flip-flops, and bring sunglasses.*
We also went to museum and the Bantay watch tower. Bantay is just a few minutes away from Vigan. In order to reach the area, we chartered a kalesa to tour us around tourist spots. The fee of the kalesa is 150 pesos per hour
The good thing with the Bantay tower is that it has free admission!
View from up there. |
After filling our eyes with a very beautiful scenery and filling our brains with historical facts, we went to Burnayam, a place where the main source of income is pottery making.
These pots take up 10 to 15 days to dry. |
We reached Baluarte, a mini zoo owned by the governor(?) of the area. We only got to see some animals because summer is dying- it ain't peek season anymore.
